As we continue to expand our product portfolio, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Staff Communications Engineer with a strong focus on power line communications technology integration to join our dynamic team.


As a Senior Staff Network Communications Engineer specializing in communications technology integration, you will be a key technical expert responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing communication solutions that harness the potential of power line infrastructure and/or wireless. Leveraging your deep understanding of communication technologies and protocols, you will play a critical role in advancing our products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • PLC System Design: Lead the design and development of power line communications systems, including PLC modems, transceivers, and communication modules, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and scalability requirements.
  • Communication Protocol Integration: Integrate and optimize communication protocols into PLC systems to enable efficient data transmission, multi-vendor interoperability, and seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
  • Signal Processing: Implement signal processing algorithms for robust communication over noisy power line channels, enhancing the system's performance and data throughput.
  • Hardware-Software Co-Design: Collaborate closely with hardware and software engineering teams to co-design solutions, ensuring harmonious integration and efficient utilization of resources.
  • Testing and Validation: Plan and execute comprehensive tests and validation procedures to verify the performance, reliability, and compliance of communication systems with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • System Optimization: Continuously identify opportunities for system optimization, bandwidth utilization, and power efficiency, driving innovation and improvements in technology integration.
  • Troubleshooting and Debugging: Investigate and resolve complex technical issues related to communication systems, providing guidance and support to junior engineers.
  • Documentation: Maintain thorough and up-to-date documentation of communication system designs, integration processes, and project progress.
  • Industry Trends and Research: Stay informed about the latest advancements in power line communications, emerging standards, and relevant technologies, and apply this knowledge to enhance the company's products.
  • Collaboration and Mentorship: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

Minimal Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or a related field; Master's or Ph.D. is a plus.
  • Proven track record of 8+ years of experience in power line communications technology integration, preferably in industries like smart grid systems, utilities, or industrial automation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong expertise in communication protocols used in PLC systems
  • Proficiency in signal processing algorithms, digital communication, and error correction techniques for robust data transmission.
  • Hands-on experience with PLC hardware and firmware development.
  • Familiarity with PLC standards, regulations, and certification processes.
  • Knowledge of power system communications and cybersecurity considerations in PLC technology integration.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead projects, work independently, and collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Physical demands:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.

Generac is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role based in (Pacific Palisades, CA ) is $150,000 - $208,000. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation including short term and long term incentives.
