Position Summary

Responsible for providing day-to-day farm operations in support of instructional programs. This position will be working with the Veterinary Technology Department

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledgeable about basic livestock care procedures.

  • Ability to identify animal species, breeds, ages and sexes.

  • Ability to identify signs of animal illnesses, diseases and injuries.

  • Ability to multi-task and work positively with others.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals within the Dallas College community.

  • Strong knowledge and experience providing effective customer service.

  • Ability to comprehend instructions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for cleaning of holding areas, runs, stalls and pens assuring that animals receive food and water, bathing, and grooming, and providing humane handling when animals need to be moved.

  • Daily care and feeding of various livestock and companion animals.

  • Reports on any special health conditions of livestock and companion animals to supervisor.

  • Demonstrated animal control knowledge, skills and abilities.

  • Maintains accurate records of livestock and companion animals.

  • Working animals as needed for data collection and animal health.

  • Maintains accurate records of livestock and companion animals.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities. Occasionally may be required to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED & some experience with animal handling.

  • Position will require working weekends and holidays.

  • Bilingual preferred.
